ABOUT DMJ PRODUCTIONS

Choose us for reliable talent management and sound equipment that will quickly take your event from live music, to a live music experience!

DMJ Productions History

Owner Dee James had always dreamed of being professionally independent, and in 2020, that dream came true.

After growing up in radio and music all her life, Dee has always had a passion for all things music. From the band she started after moving to North Dakota, to becoming the music coordinator for a local restaurant & lounge scheduling musicians, she naturally progressed to owning her own live music business. When Dee finally decided to step away from the world of corporate radio to focus on her health and her own career, she took the contacts and equipment she had acquired, and “DMJ Productions” was born.

DMJ Productions employs local and regional talent to perform, producing music for people to enjoy and promoting live, local talent from North Dakota and southern Illinois.

“Producing live music is a passion in my life. It is a joy to help people enhance their events with live music. If you have been a client of DMJ Productions, thank you for supporting live music and local musicians.”
-Dee James, Owner

Meet The Owner

Dee James was born and raised in a small town in southern Illinois, and radio and music were a big influence growing up. Dee’s dad, Fred James, a banjo picker, performed in a band and often would listen to radio stations, exposing her to music legends. As a young child, she would write and record pretend newscasts on her cassette player, dreaming of one day being on the radio.

After earning an Associate’s Degree in Radio/TV Broadcasting, Dee began her professional radio career in 1983 at WMCL in McLeansboro, IL. She was a disc jockey for this AM Country radio station, and later transitioned to News/Talk Radio in 2007 at River Radio in Carterville, IL.

In 2013, Dee completed her Bachelor's Degrees in History and Political Science from Southern Illinois University and moved to North Dakota, where she began hosting a local radio talk show. She also started her own band, DMJ, with her daughter Molly, and friend, Jeri — a lifelong dream. She performed in coffee houses, weddings, churches, festivals, community events and other venues. She even performed at the Medora Musical!

In 2024, Dee was inducted into The Dakota Musician’s Association Hall of Fame. The Dakota Musician's Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to paying honor and tribute to musicians or people involved in the art of music. She accepts the honor on behalf of all the talented musicians she is privileged to represent while promoting live music in North Dakota and southern Illinois.

Dee resides in Pinckneyville, IL with her husband, Mark, and her sheltie, Bear. She now continues her love of music within her business, DMJ Productions.
